For another college project, I had to create a record sleeve for a project called Secret 7", where the organisers choose 7 songs, old or new, that never got a single cover, and they open the contest to every designer, and their favourites get made and get sold with the actual 7" vinyl in the record sleeve. When I took part in this, the contest was unfortunately closed, so I couldn't actually submit my work to the contest, but I still got to make my entry for my college work.
When I created my entry, the 7 song choices were; Chvrches - Clearest Blue, Etta James - At Last, Jack Garratt - Worry, The Jam - Art School, John Lennon - Imagine, Max Richter - Dream 3 and Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better. I eventually chose Jack Garratt - Worry, after trying to choose between that, Etta James and John Lennon. I decided on Worry because I felt like I had more ideas for it and there were more objects/ideas I could work with.
After a wide range of experimentation (including texture making, negative space, geometric shapes, photography) I had two ideas to choose from for my final piece. One was a ripped up thundercloud inspired by the Instagram account 'cut.tear', where I had used my own textures, using shaving foam and paint, and watercolour and salt, against a yellow background (which you can view here), and the other was an emoji which looked worried, with Jack's hat and famous beard on. After creating both, I decided I liked the emoji one better, so I created a vector entirely on Illustrator and I am so proud of it. It is one of my favourite pieces I've ever created during my time at college.
